Our History:
Home > About Us > History

1956: KEYSTONE FIRE PROTECTION CO. started as the Walter Kidde Sales & Service Company. Walter Kidde Company was a leading manufacturer of fire extinguishers and other equipment at that time.

1965: We changed our name to Keystone Fire Protection Co., Inc. to better reflect our Pennsylvania roots.

1974: Keystone Fire Protection Co. had established itself as an industry leader in the emerging clean agent fire suppression market with the sale of DuPont's Halon 1301® systems.

1993: Company founder John H. Lawlor named son John M. Lawlor president. The younger Lawlor began acquiring companies — Dependable Fire Equipment (Telford, PA), Atlas Fire Equipment (Gloucester, NJ), Atlas Fire Sprinkler (Millville, NJ), Reitnauer Fire and Truck Company (Pottstown, PA), and Poley's Fire Equipment (Pleasantville, NJ) — whose products and services complemented our core business. We also began to branch out from our Montgomeryville, PA headquarters, adding locations in Gloucester and Millville, NJ.

2002: We had a substantial presence across Pennsylvania and New Jersey. We also had a new focus, a new energy and a new name to reflect it all — Keystone Protection Industries.

Today: KEYSTONE FIRE PROTECTION CO. serves the same markets it did back in 1956 — commercial, industrial, municipal, institutional and restaurant. However, our client list is considerably longer — and it continues to grow. No company in the region surpasses our scope or capabilities.
