History

1956: KEYSTONE FIRE PROTECTION CO. started as the Walter Kidde Sales & Service Company. Walter Kidde Company was a leading manufacturer of fire extinguishers and other equipment at that time.

1965: We changed our name to Keystone Fire Protection Co., Inc. to better reflect our Pennsylvania roots.

1974: Keystone Fire Protection Co. had established itself as an industry leader in the emerging clean agent fire suppression market with the sale of DuPont’s Halon 1301® systems.

1993: Company founder John H. Lawlor named son John M. Lawlor president. The younger Lawlor began acquiring companies – Dependable Fire Equipment (Telford, PA), Atlas Fire Equipment (Gloucester, NJ), Atlas Fire Sprinkler (Millville, NJ), Reitnauer Fire and Truck Company (Pottstown, PA), and Poley’s Fire Equipment (Pleasantville, NJ) – whose products and services complemented our core business. We also began to branch out from our Montgomeryville, PA headquarters, adding locations in Gloucester and Millville, NJ.

2011: Keystone Fire Protection Co. was awarded the Small Business Administration (SBA)’s prestigious “Jeffrey H. Butland Small Family Business of the Year” Award

2012: Keystone Fire Protection Co. continues their relentless drive towards excellence by acquiring Stong Fire Protection. Stong is a leader in the fire protection industry with a specific focus on sprinkler systems and services. The newly acquired Stong expanded Keystone Fire Protection Co.’s sprinkler division and facilitated a broader reach within target markets in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware.

Today: KEYSTONE FIRE PROTECTION CO. serves the same markets it did back in 1956 – commercial, industrial, municipal, institutional and restaurant. However, our client list is considerably longer – and it continues to grow. No company in the region surpasses our scope or capabilities.
